Watch Video: Making a plan to enhance your family relationships

Having a supportive family is an essential part of how we develop into healthy, happy
and productive human beings. Families can provide us with a place
where we feel safe, secure and loved.

There is no one perfect type of family. They come in all shapes and sizes.

Some families get along really well and some not so well. Some face challenges like
divorce, mental illness, substance abuse or even violence that can cause extreme stress.
It is important to know that these things are not your fault, and you might not be able to
control them or make them right.

If this is happening in your family, it may be best to talk to someone who can offer you
support, especially if you feel sad, scared or unsafe.

What you can control is how you behave, contribute, care, communicate and respond
to others in your family. These skills can make a real difference to the quality of your
relationships, how happy you feel and how you cope with day to day stresses.
